From the Nihongan Medicinal Museum to the Kuncho Sake Brewery Museum, Mameda Town is a preserved area full of history from its association with Tokugawa Shogunate. Today it is also known for its famous wooden geta as well as its Doll Festival. This place makes a pleasant weekend in the countryside of Oita prefecture, just over 80 minutes from Fukuoka.

I came across this article by searching for Hita, because I'm going to Kyushu in October and want a stop somewhere between Fukuoka and Beppu - I think this is going to be the perfect spot to break up the trip!
