Akita's version of igloos provide warmth in the cold

When one hears about winters in Akita shivers ensue. It is true that winters can get cold up in Akita but many people would not expect that Akita has some of their most popular and coolest festivals during this time. In the second week of February the most well known event is the Kamakura festival. That's right, Sapporo is not the only one with a snow festival!

Kamakura are Akita's version of igloos. During the festival Kamakuras of all sizes line the city streets. Best of all is you can dine with locals inside these structures.
