Pocket Wifi

Emobile's wifi router the size of an iphone

EMOBILE's Pocket Wifi service is one way of having an internet connection while on the go. You will receive a box with a small iphone-sized device, two cables and a plug. One cable connects it directly to your computer while the other allows charging. The strength of its connection varies depending on where you are, expect it to possibly be weaker in more rural areas. Keeping it charged may also help improve the strength of its signal.

To use this device once you have received it you simply hold down the power button (as shown in this article's images) and wait until EMOBILE flashes across the screen. It should take around five seconds for the brand name to appear. If it doesn't you may need to plug the device into the charger and try again, as it may be short of battery.

Once the pocket wifi is on its network will appear in the list of wireless networks on your portable devices. If you are using an iPad or Iphone simply go into settings, networks, wi-fi and find the network that begins with 'GL01P..'. On a windows using laptop it is better to approach the connection more manually by going into your control panel, 'network and internet' and then 'network sharing centre'. Manually connect to the network by returning to the pocket wifi and double clicking the WSP button above the power button. Once you press this button twice the SSID and Password of your specific wifi will flash across the screen. Inputting these details will allow you to log in and connect.

As depicted in the photos below, you can see that the pocket wi-fi is roughly the same size an iPhone, which is very convenient for carrying in your luggage. Many hotels and even hostels and ryokans in Japan are now equip with a solid wi-fi connection or cable connection. If you are a true adventurer roughing it in a camping ground or rural town, however, this may be an option you would like to consider. EMOBILE's pocket wi-fi won't weigh you down while trekking through the mountains.
