First Time Visit to Sankeien Garden

Beautiful Japanese Garden in Honmoku, Yokohama

There are so many famous tourist attractions in Yokohama, but unfortunately there aren't many places that make you cry out, ''This is Japan!" (though I may be the only one who thinks that way).

One of a few places you can feel Japan in an urbane city like Yokohama is Sankeien Garden in Honmoku area. Although its history is not so long (it opened in 1906), this is one of the most beautiful Japanese gardens with many old and important buildings moved from Kyoto and Nara laid out in perfect harmony. The main purpose of my visit this time was to see lotus flowers, so I didn't have time to see everything it offered (I only covered less than half of its spacious 175,000 ㎡ of land. FYI, the size of this garden is about 13.5 Tokyo Domes). I'd like to return there many times in the future to make sure whether its reputation of seasonal beauty is true or not. To access this garden, you can either take a bus from JR Negishi, Yokohama, Sakuragicho stations, or drive to it. There are parking spaces as well, and on weekdays they are relatively empty.
