Tsugaru Jamisen

The melancholic sounds will touch your soul

Tsugaru-jamisen or Tsugaru-shamisen refers to the Japanese genre of shamisen music from the Tsugaru Peninsula in Aomori prefecture. Tsugaru-jamisen has its roots in travelling performance groups throughout Japan and is considered the most recognized genre of shamisen music.

Some Japanese restaurants in Hirosaki host performances of Tsugaru-jamisen and one of those restaurants is Anzu izakaya. You can enjoy the performance at 19.30 and 21.30 after you travel around the city.

I remember when I lived in Akita a few years ago and went to Aomori City often. The Hirosaki train station plays Tsugaru Jamizen music when people board the train!! Now I live in Sendai and have only been able to stop by once, catching the last few cherry blossoms this year a few months ago. Please share more of your area!!!
