Hanami at Nishi Park

Enjoy cherry blossoms in downtown Fukuoka

As spring comes to the largest city in Kyushu, the crowds head for the biggest downtown parks, Maizuru and Nishi, to enjoy the cherry blossoms. Most of the noisy large groups set up in front of Terumo Shrine near the main entrance, which is lined with vendors selling food and drink at this time of year. Alternatively, there’s plenty of space on the quieter grassy hillsides just up the path from the shrine. Whether you’re a party animal or you want to ponder the delicate sakura in peace, you can find your spot at Nishi-koen, just north of the Ohori-koen subway station.

Preparing food and drinks for picnic in this park is a good idea, isn't it?

Sure is! There are food stalls during hanami season, but most people bring their own food with them.
