The ruins of Fujiwara Palace in Nara are home to a range of great flower events throughout the year. In spring there are colorful yellow canola flowers, in late-July through mid-August there are lovely lotus flowers, and throughout October pink cosmos fill the grounds as far as the eye can see. The cosmos in particular are truly a sight to behold, turning the grounds into something resembling a fairytale scene.

The best place to check for up to date information on the cosmos flowering situation is the official Kashihara Tourism Facebook page.

Admission the the palace ruins is free of charge.

Getting there

The Fujiwara Palace Ruins can be accessed within 30 minutes on foot from either the Kintetsu Miminashi Station, the JR Unebi Station, or the Kintetsu Unebigoryomae Station. Alternatively, there is a community bus service which operates from Yamato-Yagi Station, and it runs directly to the Fujiwara Capital Information Center (just across the street from the palace ruins). The community bus is charged at a flat fee of 170 yen.

Hi! Can i please ask if you know how I cango from Osaka (from Nishi-Nagahori station) to Fujiwara Palace ruins?
I check routes on google maps but I only see available trains from 6pm and onwards. Is it not possible to catch a train to Fujiwara early in the morning?

Hi! I've got routes starting from 5am-ish from Nishi-Nagahori Station to Yamato-Yagi Station, for instance! I'm not sure if your Google Maps was just operating off the "leave now" option and you were checking it around 6pm, but early morning departures shouldn't be an issue.
