I'm a 32-year-old Native English speaker from Australia who calls, Hiroshima, Japan, home.
I currently work as a part-time English Language Teacher and I am contracted to local companies, high schools and cultural centers to teach one-on-one lessons or small classes. I also do private lessons and am called upon by local individuals and groups for proofreading, writing and rewriting documents in English.
As a volunteer for two local NPOs I spend my time teaching and correcting spoken English in practical situations such as mock restaurants and have also lectured on Australia and Australian food and cooking. Most recently I have been asked to serve as a cultural advisor for one of the NPOs on how to challenge and change the stereotype of Japanese men amongst Western/foreign women.
I have taught English at two universities within Hiroshima and have also written and prepared material for an English textbook.
I am a fully qualified teacher and have worked in elementary/primary schools, junior high and high schools in Australia and abroad in Taiwan, Laos and Japan. This work has consisted of preparing lessons, teaching, correcting and reporting on student work and of course, interacting with parents, staff and members of the wider community.
As a qualified archaeologist and anthropologist I have extensive experience in research both online and in print and have worked with a diverse range of cultural groups.
Although the majority of my experience has been in teaching and the field of education, I am also a freelance writer who blogs about my teaching experiences, travel, philosophy and of course, cultural aspects of Japan. My work has been featured in printed magazines, online travel websites and published in creative writing anthologies. My personal blog can be found at http://www.jackcrispy.com and I am also a guest blogger at http://existentialtravel.com .
