KIX to Kyoto? Worth visiting Shirakawago? JR Pass?

Asked by Christina Kang · 3 years ago

1)Which transport from kansai airport to kyoto is the best ( cheap and fast ) ?

2)Should we go to shirakawago? But there is quite a distance to reach there from kyoto.

3)If we are going to shirakawago, any suggestion what transportation should we take and how many days to stay there?

4)Should we get the JR pass?  Or any other transportation? If we are getting the JR pass, which pass should we get : takayama-hokuriku area , kansai-hokuriku area , kansai area pass ?

Thank you.

Christina, you might consider visiting Miyama, just north of Kyoto. It is also a thatched roof village and sees far fewer tourists than Shirakawa-go.

1)

Here are some Kansai Intl -> Kyoto Buses - http://www.okkbus.co.jp/en/timetable/kix/f_kyt.html .. seem quite frequent about 2500yen one way (or 4,180yen round trip)

As for trains, this website is really good for getting train times for anywhere in Japan - http://www.hyperdia.com/en/ .. train between Kansai Intl and Kyoto (one way) seem about 3000yen+

Buy the JR West Kansai Pass (1 day from 2200 yen) or the Haruka + ICOCA package. It is all here.  http://en.japantravel.com/view/best-way-to-and-from-kansai-airport-to-kyoto   I also think Miyama is a good alternative, is cheaper and closer to get to as well (hire car or bus)

Bus and its schedule are easy to find once you het out from arrival terminal.

Shirakawago is the best place to enjoy snow during winter, and there are many tours organizing the trip. 2 days is enough for me who cannot bear the cold.

I think JR Pass is good if you travel to many places in Japan in short period, since Kansai area and Tokyo itself provide kind of pass through ticket for tourist.

Have a nice trip.
