I happen to like Daimaru, which is right on the main street (Shijo-dori) and just steps from the western end of the Nishiki Market. I don't shop much for clothes or accessories, but I find the food hall is wonderful and I always stock up on dinner supplies (bentos, snacks, etc) for my train or flight home.

I like the one in front of Kyoto Station, don't remember the name, but they have a great ABC Mart outlet there.

Takashimaya has a long association with arts and crafts, and is in a central location. From the 1910s, when Takashimaya held its first exhibition with the Kyoto arts and crafts society (the Katsumikai), it has been showcasing the best in Japanese design, having the delicacies of traditional arts, but also fitting into the modern lifestyle. http://en.japantravel.com/view/kyoto-takashimaya-department-store

There really seems to be a lot to choose from; But Loft just appeals to me for the bright colors and quality graphic design (I'm biased lol).

Loft! You can find it easily in Shibuya (Tokyo) or many other places!
