Shirakawa-go and Hida Folk Village during New Year

Asked by Kathleen Odelia · 2 months ago

Hi!

I plan to stay at Takayama or Kanagawa on 1st - 2nd January 2020. I plan to go to Shirakawa-go or Hida Folk Village around those dates.

Can anyone tell me if there's bus in operation and if the places can be visited?
I got Nohi bus' schedule that some of the routes will still be availabe, but I'm not sure.

Thank you!

Hi Kathleen, the Hida Folk Village is a 30-minute walk or 10-minute bus ride from Takayama Station in the opposite direction of the city center. The "Sarubobo Bus" provides connections every 20-40 minutes for 210 yen per ride or 620 yen for a one day pass. There is also a special discount ticket that combines the bus round trip from Takayama Station with admission to Hida no Sato for 930 yen.

Also, yes, there will be buses that will go to Shirakawa-go from Takayama Station, operated by Nohi Bus, Hokutetsu, and Toyama Chiho Tetsudo. The round trip ticket is valid for up to ten calendar days and this is not covered by the Japan Rail Pass.
