What is it like to eat at Jiro's?

Asked by Sherilyn Siy · 5 years ago

I am currently watching Jiro Dreams of Sushi. Has anyone here in this group actually eaten at Jiro's? What's it like? Is it really 30,000 yen (possibly more) per meal? And more importantly, is it worth the price?

Jiro Dreams of Sushi is a great documentary! I had relatives visiting from California and eating a Jiro's restaurant (or his son's) was their top priority. However, due to the price and the "unknown" of what would be served, they opted for something more affordable yet still Michelin-starred. I recommend lunch at Sushi Iwa located in Ginza, Tokyo. For 8,000yen per person for a 13-course meal, the sushi was phenomenal and the ambiance a bit more relaxed. Master Chef Iwa was really great with his technique and explained a few things when we looked confused.

I've only seen this video where a guy filmed his visit to Jiro's restaurant and he says it was great https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRAmdcnur1A

But then in the comment someone says it it his son's restaurant.

And here is the opinion of Andy Hayler, a food critic at Elite Traveler who has dined at every 3-star Michelin restaurant in the worldhttp://www.businessinsider.com/is-sukiyabashi-jiro-actually-worth-it-2014-4#ixzz3aMZm1W7G
