The town of Ajiro in Shizuoka has prospered as a port town since the Edo period, and is well regarded for its hot springs and seafood. The Ajiro Onsen Dried Fish Festival celebrates this, with around 3,000 pieces of horse mackerel to be grilled and served to attendees for free on each day of the event.
Please note that the dates are not consecutive. In 2026, the festival will be held on January 11, 12, 14, and 15.
In addition, there will be items available for purchase including farm-fresh veggies, grilled clams, salted squid, yakisoba, clam rice, various soups made with local ingredients, and a host of handicrafts.
Please note the free fish is first come, first served, so it's recommended to get there early in the day.
