The Atami Marine Fireworks Festival originally started in 1952 as a celebration of the area's reconstruction efforts after Typhoon Kitty in 1949 and a devastating fire in 1950. The event has now become synonymous with the Atami area, and it will be held on two separate dates during the autumn season for 2023.
Part of what makes this event so celebrated is the prime location it boasts for setting off fireworks. Situated right on the water, the venue is surrounded by mountains on the other three sides which serves as a form of insulation for the sounds.

The dates for the fireworks this autumn are October 14th (Sat), and November 19th (Sun), with the fireworks displays set to run from 8.20 pm until 8.40 pm.
