Night Aquarium 2016 at Nihonbashi

Ethereal experience night or day

Venue: Art Aquarium Museum When: Jul 10th - Sep 23rd 2016

The Eco Edo Nihonbashi Art Aquarium is back for 2016 and now into its 5th year, mixing elaborate displays of goldfish alongside Edo-inspired artworks.

By day, the venue at Nihonbashi's Curedo Muromachi complex showcases a mesmerising art installation of 5,000 goldfish. Modern technology, including theatrical lighting and projection mapping, combines with Edo-era aesthetics to create a three-dimensional, interactive living and breathing work of art.

By night, the music changes tempo, the lighting dims and guests start sipping cocktails as the venue transforms into the club-like 'Night Aquarium'. Guests can relax with a menu of exclusive drinks (such as the original 'Goldfish' cocktail, mojito, beer or the Japanese Sake 'Dassai') set to a backdrop of DJs and special performances (on weekends).

Beginning in 2011, the Eco Edo Nihonbashi Art Aquarium is an annual exhibition combining two unique aspects of Japanese culture: the love ofkingyo goldfish and traditional Edo motifs.

Aquarium designer Hidetomo Kimura combines modern technology with traditional Japanese aesthetics, utilizing lighting tricks and projection mapping to transform classic glass fishbowls into unique works of art. Music and burning incense accompany the 5,000 goldfish to give visitors an experience for all senses.

After dark, guests can sip on cocktails as the lighting and music change to create a club-like atmosphere. DJs and live performances will be turning up the music on Saturday nights and holidays.
