Fall Views From Fuji's 5th Station

Halfway up Mount Fuji the view is incredible!

Early October is too soon for Fall color in Tokyo, but at the Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station on Mount Fuji, the season is well underway. The cold air is bracing, and views of Mount Fuji's slopes are enhanced by red and yellow trees mixed with evergreens. Aokigahara Forest wraps around Mount Fuji like a blue-green skirt. In the distance you can see Lake Yamanaka and Lake Kawaguchiko, and the town of Fujiyoshida sprawls around the base of the smaller mountains across the plain.

I was out at Takao today and while the leaves there weren't quite changing yet (only a handful), we saw the first snow on Mt Fuji!

I missed the first snow by just a couple of days. Maybe next time I head for Yamanashi....
