In November 2014 I went to Kyoto to enjoy autumn leaves, and visited several famous temples.
This story focuses on Shoren-in Temple, which is famous for an image of its blue guardian deity - a National Treasure. Shoren-in is one of the Monzeki Temples, and the head priests traditionally come from aristocratic or imperial lineage. Because this temple can boast of noble connections, it is commonly called 'Awata Imperial Palace'.
Along with the brilliant maple leaves here, the lotus paintings on the sliding doors of guest rooms in Kachoden Hall are marvelous. Especially, the blue lotus paintings painted by Hideki Kimura are extraordinary.

I visited here last September and remember being so surprised by how vibrant the painted panels were. The garden was lovely too, and hardly anyone was there. So much calmer than other Kyoto temples!

Masayoshi-san, I love Kyoto and try to come up from Kumamoto to visit Kyoto at least two times a year. I have seen many temples, but not all! I really want to see Ninnja-ji, Daigo-ji and the temples north of Arashiyama. There is always something "new"!

Are you also twice in one year? You really like Kyoto. I was born in Kyoto. However, I may not know the Kyoto about you?

The end of this month, or at the beginning of next month I I'd go to Amakusa in Kumamoto. I will go to take a picture of the landscape and the Church of the Amakusa! Kyoto I also like, but I also like Kyushu! Once a year I will visit.

I hope you have a great time! Be prepared - it has been very cold here, even colder than Tokyo and Kyoto!
