Rangitoto Tokyo

Craft Sake and New Zealand Wine Bar

Whether you are a casual drinker or experienced connoisseur, this bar is going to offer you something new! Rangitoto Tokyo, a craft sake and New Zealand wine bar, is not your average bar where you just drink for the sake of drinking and company. It is where you go to take pleasure in a whole new drinking experience.

The bar is owned by Wayne Shennen. He's not only the first New Zealander to achieve the advanced level of certified sake professionals, but he is also a certified wine sommelier. It is needless to say that he is incredibly knowledgeable about everything alcohol related and truly passionate about both sake and wine. This makes visiting Rangitoto Tokyo a rare opportunity to learn about the beverages while enjoying them.

Wayne’s mission is to introduce foreign residents and visitors to Japan's national beverage, and Japanese people to high quality New Zealand wines. As someone who has worked in several sake breweries across Japan and met countless wine makers around the world, he serves guests sake and wine that will taste unlike any you have had before. The dedication with which he pours the drinks and talks about them will make you appreciate the effort that went into making these beverages even more.

In addition to more than 100 different New Zealand wines and a great variety of craft sake that you can relish at Rangitoto Tokyo, they also serve Allpress Coffee, widely known in the Southern Hemisphere for decent coffee. Your beverage can be paired with some delicious food for lunch and dinner while watching live sports broadcasts on the big TV. If you want to learn more about sake and wine, you can join one of the regular guided tastings.

The major take away from my visit to Rangitoto was that sake and wine doesn’t need to be expensive, it’s supposed to be fun to drink! Because at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that you are enjoying your drink.

How cool! I did a double-take when I saw the name, because I'm a New Zealander.
