Sakura at Meguro River

Enjoy hundreds of cherry trees along the riverside

Sakura season is upon us and one of the most famous viewing locations is along the Meguro River in the western part of Tokyo. Over 800 trees grow by the banks of the river, which creates a tunnellike effect of sakura branches. The flowers are illuminated at night by nearby lights and lanterns, so viewing is great during night and day. There isn't really space for the traditional picnic like hanami, but the river is lined with food and drink stalls that you enjoy on the go. While it can be crowded, the whole festival atmoshpere and tunnel of trees is well worth a trip!
