A pure wind is blowing on my face. Komyo-ji Temple is just a few steps from the sea, and the sea breeze here always seems to purify the temple’s precincts and visitors with its natural power. During the Edo period, Komyo-ji was the top of 18 Jodo sect seminaries in the Kanto region. Huge numbers of priests learned and practiced here, offering up their prayers to Amida Buddha over a long period of time.

Komyo-ji Temple of Kamakura
Just a few steps from the sea

Peaking in over the outer wall.

Amitabha Tathagata Buddha, the main statue of the temple.

The elderly in the neighborhood love to drop in.

At dusk, just before the main gate closes, the temple is quiet and serene.

The temple garden is lovely.

The main hall is always tranquil inside.

The main gate's double roof is quite stunning.

This dragon decoration hangs from the ceiling of the main hall.

The temple in spring is alive with cherry trees.

Cherry trees grace the main hall.

Looking out from the main hall.

The temple has a pretty little pond.
