I found this simple, yet beautiful, prayer altar just before the entrance to the temple

This huge impressive sign was hidden up among the rafters inside the temple. I asked some Japanese what it said but they couldn't read it! If anybody knows, please let me know!

Sometimes, the simplest things are the prettiest

Inside the shrine, catching the early morning light. Like many temple/shrines in Japan, there was a mixture of the two religions present.

After you've seen the temple, why not sit down and have some tea?

Kiyomizudera is one of the most famous and beautiful temples in Japan. I visited the temple in the early morning on a day in early April and found a lot to enjoy: The views (of course!), the cherry blossoms (of course), and besides that, many little details. There was also a traveling monk who was accepting alms on the walkway up to the temple. I felt like a whole series on just him would have been possible!
