Autumn leaves at a local Kyoto temple

A paved road leads over a bridge to the temple gate

A cherry leaf lies in a small puddle

Color is strewn across the gravel and paths

Yellow gingko trees stand in front of the temple

Inside the gate is a riot of color

Ornate gold stud on the gate

Golden leaves harmonize with gold metal protecting the ends of gate beams from insects

Two gloriously scarlet maples flank a rustic gate

A tile capped wall surrounds the temple

A cycle path runs along the river outside the wall

I used to live in Yamashina in Kyoto, and I have ridden my bicycle past this temple many times. It looks peaceful and inviting at any time of year, but it is quite stunning in autumn. Cherry, maple and gingko trees combine their various shades of orange, red and gold to create a wonderful riot of color. This temple is in easy walking distance from Yamashina JR Station, and very close to Higashino Station on Tozai Subway Line, so if you have the opportunity, pay a visit this autumn.
