One of the great pleasures of visiting seaside towns in Japan is that you can be sure of incredible seafood restaurants. Kaisen Sakaba Nanayan is a small izakaya-style with a friendly, intimate atmosphere. They offer many seafood dishes, local specialities like udon noodles or tofu in dark sauce, and a lot more. My favorite thing was the grilled yellowtail (buri in Japanese). This restaurant is a great place to eat and drink with friends in Toba.

The beautifully arranged sashimi platter was food art

Sake in a beautiful blue and white cup with a saucer, which is a good idea if you follow the Japanese custom of filling the cup right to the brim

This small restaurant has both counter and tatami floor seating

I almost forgot to take a photo of the tofu with delicious dark sauce that is special to the region

Succulent grilled fish

Fresh salad with crab

Everything was delicious
