The Sendai Astronomical Observatory

A mid-summer's eve amongst the stars

The Sendai Astronomical Observatory is an amazing place to learn more about the Solar System and beyond in a very interesting way. There are hands-on activities that allow you to experience and see certain things for yourself. The technology available at the Observatory is state of the art and very impressive. You even have the opportunity to do some star-gazing using the 1.3m Cassegrain Telescope. So powerful is this baby, that star gazing is possible during the day (provided it's not overcast). Whether you're interested in the History of Astronomy, finding out the closest point near your hometown to seeing an Aurora, or just relaxing to some enchanting music while star gazing in the Planetarium, this place has it all.

The observatory can be accessed via bus from Sendai or Ayashi, and it is a wonderful way to pass an afternoon. I highly recommend a visit here, especially on a clear day so you can check out the stars with that amazing telescope.
