This section of the Snow Country Trail summits Naeba-san and then follows the river down to the car park of the Naeba Ski Resort. On a clear day in early September, my hiking buddy and I tackled this hike as an "out and back trip" in one long day, instead of thru-hiking. Public transportation is limited, so tackling Naeba-san from this southern trailhead is much easier with a personal vehicle. Many hikers also make it a two or three-day hike, staying at the riverside hut with adjoining onsen, about two hours in. Luckily we had beautiful weather, blue skies and still air at the summit, which made for some breathtaking views. It might make a great break from the noise of the summer music festival in the area.
