Bitchu Kokubunji: The Last Pagoda

The last five-story pagoda built

By Judith Mikami    - 1 min read

Bitchu Kokubunji in Soja City was the last five story pagoda to be built in Japan.  Apart from its long history this structure and the surrounding grounds are where locals and visitors can escape the modern world and go back to a time when walking, talking and sharing time with family and friends was a way of life. I have lived in this city for nearly two decade and every time I come to Bitchu Kokubunji I see something new that I didn’t see before. Each season, time of day and view will always be special. These images are just the beginning.

Hi, I’m Judith Mikami originally from Auckland, New Zealand. I came to Japan about twenty years ago to experience a culture and country very different from my homeland. Like many who have ventured to Japan I fell in love with the people, culture and places and before I knew it I would meet my husband. I have lived only in Okayama Prefecture and call this area my home away from home.
