The five-story Chureito Pagoda is located on a hill in Arakurayama Sengen Park in Yamanashi Prefecture. It is part of the Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine, to which it was added in 1963 as a peace memorial. It is reached via 398 steps and is impressive when the weather is clear View of Mount Fuji.
The pagoda is a popular visitor destination, especially in April when the cherry blossoms are in bloom and in November when the autumn leaves fall, as it is a popular photo opportunity with Mount Fuji in the background. Many iconic images of Japan show the Chureito Pagoda - often in the middle of flowering cherry trees - with Mount Fuji behind.
The pagoda and the Arakura of Fuji Sengen Shrine are not far from Kawaguchiko, one of the five Fuji lakes, and can be reached by train and bus.
