The surface of the pond was partly covered with fallen maple leaves

The red maple was past its best, but the yellow maple was showing its full glory

Glimpse of the teahouse through the trees

Maple leaves fall on the pond beside the Edo Era temple hall with beautiful sliding doors featuring lotuses and a fabulous pair of dragons. While the temple is all old wood, a red carpet makes a bright splash of color that is echoed by the red maple leaves in the lovely old garden. A fairly large teahouse also stands nearby.

Thank you, Megan! There are three beautiful temples in this area - Kongorinji, Saimyoji, and Hyakusaiji - all gorgeous in autumn. They are an easy day trip by train or bus, or by car, from Kyoto. I hope you can visit soon!
