Situated in the heart of Izu Peninsula, Arcana Izu is situated 20 minutes by car from Shuzenji Station. All the rooms come with a private open-air onsen bath with a view of the mountains and the natural orchestra from the water rapids.
The décor of Arcana Izu cleverly combines modern architecture with its natural setting. There is no reception lobby – check-in and check-out was within my designated room for an added level of attentiveness and privacy. The check-in procedure by the hotel staff was exact and seamless. The room comes with an English guide to explain the amenities of the room and the services provided by Arcana Izu. After check-in, there was a complimentary welcome drink and snack for me to start my stay in this modern Ryokan.
My room was very spacious, with a fully-stocked tea set and a comfortable lounge area, and two single beds facing the mountains and valleys. The verandah has two lounge chairs and the open-air onsen was big enough for two people. I was able to have a bath before dinner time to warm myself up after a day of walking at the end of winter. The secluded position of Arcana Izu meant that you will not be disturbed by your neighbours or the sounds associated with a big city, giving the ultimate in relaxation and rejuvenation in an healing natural environment.
The accommodation plan comes with half-board and I was thoroughly indulged with all my senses in their selection of dishes. Lumiere is the only restaurant in Arcana Izu. Led by the executive head chef who was trained professionally in France and worked in Michelin three-star restaurants in Tokyo, the culinary team created an interesting repertoire of dishes that were delicate and well-balanced from the use of local ingredients such as fresh wasabi that is native to Izu.
Arcana Izu is a cocoon of luxurious comfort that you shouldn't miss. It provided a re-connection to nature, and a welcome solace from the stressful city life. The dedication from the staff in every single detail throughout my stay was remarkable. I would definitely choose Arcana Izu whenever I am back to Izu.
