South of Atami resort on the east coast of the Izu Peninsula, the picturesque small town of Ito draws tourists with its hot springs, something which the city fathers are happy to play up. Dotted around the town there are little springs, each with a cute little statue perched on top, and an explanation in Japanese, presumably of who the statue represents. There are also a number of more abstract sculptures, particularly in a spacious park near the beach.

These statues are Shichi-fuku-jin - seven Gods of good luck! Quite popular in Japan.

Peter, I took the photos of them, too! I'm going to write about Ito as I really liked that town.

It's nice, isn't it? I've only been there the once but I really liked it.
