Temple thirteen in the Shikoku Ohenro pilgrimage is also known as The Temple of the Great Sun. It is worth noting that just like the fourth temple in the pilgrimage, this temple is also called Dainichiji. It was founded by Kobo Daishi and was previously associated with the Ichinomiya Shinto Shrine across the street. The two were officially separated during the persecution of Buddhism at the beginning of the Meiji Period. The current restoration was built in the later part of the Meiji Period. To get there, catch a Yorii-naka bound bus from Tokushima station and get off at the Ichinomiya-fudasho-mae stop.
