Every spring, the riverside poppy fields of Matsudo transform into a vibrant seasonal attraction during the Edogawa Matsudo Flower Line Spring Festival, a community celebration that blends colorful scenery, local culture, and family-friendly entertainment.
The flower fields themselves are a collaborative effort, cultivated by local volunteers, nurseries, kindergartens, and residents, creating a sea of vibrant poppies that has become one of the area’s seasonal highlights. Set beneath the Kamikatsushika Bridge in the Furugasaki area, the festival offers visitors a chance to enjoy spring scenery while experiencing a lively atmosphere filled with entertainment and local charm.
More than 30 stalls and food trucks typically line the venue, offering handmade goods, flowers and plants, festival snacks, and local treats. Families can also enjoy a wide range of activities and stage events, including picture-story performances, children’s dance shows, balloon art, Japanese taiko drumming, and even dinosaur races. Character greeting appearances featuring local mascots such as Chiba-kun and Matsudo-san are also a popular draw for younger visitors.
Additional attractions often include hands-on experiences such as drone piloting sessions, firefighter uniform try-ons, fire truck displays, petting zoo encounters, and dog shows, making the festival appealing for visitors of all ages.
