Sakura Season Along Sapporo's Shinkawa River

Enjoy a stroll with the beauty of 800 cherry trees

From around late April to early May each year, the banks of Sapporo's Shinkawa River are filled with the springtime beauty of around 800 cherry trees in bloom. The trees lining the river stretch for several kilometers, making it the perfect place for a scenic stroll or bike ride.

As this is a public walking area there is no admission fee, so if you're in the area be sure to enjoy Mother Nature's splendor at no cost.

Getting there

The Shinkawa River sakura path is located around 10 minutes on foot from Hachiken Station, or 15 minutes on foot from Shinkawa Station, which are both served by the Hokkaido Railway Sassho Line.

For those who plan to drive, there is no dedicated parking lot. However, people do park along the street lining the river - just do double check that there are no signs prohibiting it in the area you choose. There are also numerous paid parking lots in the surrounding area.
