Bottleships Exhibition

A limited-time event at the Kobe Maritime Museum

Venue: Kobe Maritime Museum When: Jul 21st - Aug 29th 2021

The history of bottleships is said to date back to the early 19th Century when sailing ships were more active. These intricate crafts are believed to have been made on voyages from materials sourced onboard, and the tradition passed from ship to ship and from port to port.

A special exhibition taking place at the Kobe Maritime Museum looks at a variety of these incredible bottleships, under the theme of "ships that you can meet". Each of the bottleship creations on display are of ships still in service, or ones that can be seen in a restored or preserved state.

Admission to the event is priced at 900 yen for adults and 400 yen for children.

Getting there

The Kobe Maritime Museum is located approximately 15 minutes on foot from Motomachi Station, served by the JR Kobe Line.

For those who opt to drive to the venue, it's around 5 minutes from the Kyobashi Exit of the Hanshin Expressway. Parking is available at Meriken Park.
