Mt. Aoba is the tallest mountain in the Wakasa region; also it is called the, "Mt. Fuji of Wakasa." This mountain is also an extinct volcano. At the west peak (692m) there is a volcanic rock that you climb up by rope to see the breath taking view of Wakasa Bay. Getting from one peak to the other can be fun, exciting, or scary depending on your outlook. Getting to the west peak takes about 2-3 hours from JR Matsunoodera Station. The trail starts at Matsunoodera Temple.
