HANAMIrium 2026

A modern take on a much-loved tradition

Venue
Nishikicho Park
When
Apr 3rd - Apr 12th 2026

Spring in Japan is defined by hanami, the centuries-old tradition of gathering beneath blooming cherry blossoms to welcome the new season. For many locals, it is a time to pause, reflect and celebrate with friends, family, or colleagues under trees that bloom brilliantly, then fall within days.

In 2026, visitors to Sendai can experience a contemporary take on this tradition at HANAMIrium 2026. Held for 10 days only from April 3rd to April 12th at Nishikicho Park, the event combines cherry blossoms with curated sound and lighting to create an immersive evening atmosphere.

Rather than simply viewing the sakura, guests move through a space designed to engage the senses. Illuminations highlight the blossoms after dark, while music is carefully matched to the setting, offering a different perspective on a custom that dates back hundreds of years.

Two reserved seating options are available for those who wish to enhance the experience. The Premium Area offers just 10 seats per time slot, designed for a quieter and more refined setting. The Kotatsu Area features 27 heated tables with space for 108 guests per session, allowing groups to relax beneath the blossoms in comfort. Paid seats must be reserved in advance and are sold in one-hour increments, with limited availability. To arrange a spot in the paid areas, please visit the official website here.

Admission to the park itself is free.

Nishikicho Park is located just a few minutes on foot from Kotodaikoen Station, which is served by the Sendai Subway Nanboku Line.
