High-end department stores in Japan often have their own art collections, and the Takashimaya group is one of them. With origins in Kyoto dating back to the 1830s, the prestigious retail chain also has branches in prominent cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Yokohama.
A special event at the Takashimaya Archives in Osaka will explore a variety of artworks with links to the city, while reflecting on the role that department store art departments have played in the evolution of modern Japan.
Admission to the exhibition is free of charge.
