From ease of access to an impressive array of flowers

Spring is one of the most popular times of year for inbound travel to Japan, and it's not hard to understand why—the plethora of flowers and the pleasant weather make a great environment for exploring. Tokyo's Showa Kinen Park is one beautiful place well worth checking out during this season, and this guide covers five great reasons why you should plan a visit here.

There are plenty of cherry blossoms

One of the key drawcards to Japan during spring are cherry blossoms, and there are plenty of them to enjoy at Showa Kinen Park. Around 1500 sakura trees adorn the grounds here, ensuring that there is ample beauty to go around.

Easy access from the center of the city

Part of what makes a visit to Showa Kinen Park so pleasant is the accessibility of it. There are several different gates to the park because of its size, but Nishi-Tachikawa Station is just two minutes away on foot, and Tachikawa Station is about 10 minutes away. The travel time from Shinjuku is about 30 minutes, and there are options for straight-shot trains that don't require transfers.

There is a vast amount of space

Spanning over 160 hectares, the park’s sheer size means you can always find a quiet spot to enjoy the beauty of the season. The vast open spaces provide a refreshing escape to some of Tokyo's more crowded destinations during this time of year.

Additional seasonal events add to the fun

The park also incorporates some fun, seasonal events that add extra incentive to a trip here. For instance, this year they are hosting bubble events set against the backdrop of flower fields. If you appreciate all things photogenic then this is something you shouldn't miss!

The sheer amount of different flowers is impressive

The park's website has a list of the flowers you can anticipate to enjoy throughout the year, and spring has quite the bounty. As mentioned, cherry blossoms are one highlight, but tulips, baby blue eyes, azaleas, wisteria, and irises are just some of the other highlights.
