The event that takes place in January every year at Tokyo Dome is the perfect chance to try Japanese food from all regions and enjoy a sample of festivals at the same venue.
The main events and performances are held on the weekends, though the whole Furusato Matsuri lasts for eight days. The big attraction is having the most popular dishes from Japan concentrated at a single venue. Across the halls, separated by regions, it is nearly impossible for a single person to try all the delicacies in a single day. From south to north of the country, food and Japanese crafts can be bought whilst enjoying the chants from festivals, regional mascots, characters, and music performances. Willing to see the Nebuta Matsuri performance, I waited until the last Saturday to attend the event at Tokyo Dome. Once finished, the attendants are invited to see up close and participate in the festival dances. A nice sample to experience the best of Japan in Tokyo.
