Tokyo's Oimachi area is getting a glowing new attraction this spring with the debut of OIMACHI LIGHT TRAIL, a free nighttime illumination event launching alongside the opening of the new mixed-use complex OIMACHI TRACKS.
Running from March 28th to June 1st, 2026, the event will turn the area around JR Oimachi Station into an after-dark art space, using projection mapping and creative lighting to celebrate the neighborhood's long history with Japan's railways.
Produced by creative company NAKED, Inc., the team behind major projection mapping and immersive art events across Japan, OIMACHI LIGHT TRAIL connects the station, plaza, and rooftop park with what organizers describe as "tracks of light," transforming the district into a walkable nighttime landmark.
The centerpiece of the event is the grand staircase at Station Plaza, where seasonal projection mapping will be displayed. Opening with "Sakura Symphony," visitors can expect animated cherry blossom petals dancing across the steps to mark the start of spring. Future themed displays, including a fireworks-inspired show, are also planned during the event period.
Elsewhere, the Cross Plaza will feature a glowing railway-inspired symbolic monument, while Tracks Park, the facility's rooftop green space, will be lit with illuminated trees and projected pathways designed to make evening strolls feel a little more magical.
