Rainy season in Tokyo just got a whole lot prettier. From May 11th to June 30th, visitors can step into a world of lavender tones, hydrangea-inspired sweets, and elegant seasonal flavors with the limited-time “Purple Afternoon Tea” at Hyatt Centric Ginza Tokyo. Served at the hotel’s stylish restaurant NAMIKI667, the experience is designed to celebrate Japan’s rainy season through color, texture, and flavor.
The entire menu is inspired by the theme of “purple x rainy season,” featuring ingredients like blueberries, blackcurrants, lavender, and butterfly pea flower. The result is an eye-catching afternoon tea set that feels almost too beautiful to eat, though you will definitely want to.
Among the highlights is the hydrangea tart, decorated with sparkling pale purple amber sugar and topped with blueberries and blackberries. There’s also a silky blueberry rare cheesecake, a fragrant Earl Grey roll cake with purple cream, delicate cassis macarons, and a lavender pavlova layered with berry jelly and cream. Even the savory selection keeps to the theme, including a smoked salmon and purple cabbage galette that balances richness with refreshing acidity.
To complete the experience, guests can sip on “Purple Rain,” a violet-scented non-alcoholic cocktail inspired by rainfall. The sweetness of coconut combined with soda creates a refreshing finish perfect for humid Tokyo afternoons.
The Purple Afternoon Tea is priced at 7,590 JPY and includes free-flow coffee and tea plus a welcome drink. An evening “Purple Night Afternoon Tea” is also available from 6pm for 6072 JPY, including drinks.
