Vegetarian Restaurants in Osaka

Where to get your greens

“Japanese food is healthy.” This may be the first comment about Japanese food we hear from nutritionists. Recently “new Japanese style” set meals have become popular among health-conscious Japanese people. What are new Japanese-style set meals? They come with brown or mixed grain rice instead of white rice, some small dishes based mainly on vegetables, and some soup. All of the ingredients are usually organic. Below, we list the three best restaurants in Osaka that provide delicious Japanese healthy set meals with carefully selected organic ingredients.

Genmian

Genmian calls itself a “vegetable diner”. It prides itself on the high quality and safety of its ingredients. It offers all brown rice. A large serving of the tender brown rice is available for no extra charge. All vegetables are organic and pesticide-free, and all condiments including the soy sauce are free of preservatives and artificial colorants. The tofu is hand-made. My recommendation is the vegetable curry set with brown rice. There are five restaurants to choose from: Nishiumeda, Shinsaibashi, Tennoji MIO, Yodoyabashi Odona and Higobashi.

Natural Bar Paprika Vegan Dining

The concept of this restaurant is vegan, macrobiotic diets and raw foods. They don’t serve any meat, fish, egg, dairy, processed food, processed sugar, or MSG. There are a great variety of entrees with soy meat. The healthy desserts are all delicious and sweet enough to make you forget processed sugar and dairy aren’t used. You should definitely try the soft serve ice cream made from soy milk. The drink menu has a good variety of organic wine and beer. All white décor with a rustic flare featuring antique furniture emphasizes this restaurant’s warm and healthy atmosphere, and welcomes you like a second home.

Access: Walk for five minutes to the north from Yotsubashi Station on the Yotsubashi line, Osaka City Subway. Turn west at the corner of Sumitomo Mitsui Bank and walk one block.

Asushoku

Mioko Nagashima, a lecturer at National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Kanoya, is the mastermind behind the menu. All set meals at this restaurant come with rice, soup and three small main dishes, which is said to be the standard style of a traditional Japanese meal. Their original rice is a blend of quinoa and rice germ; it is very tender and delicious. Their signature offering is the daily meal set made with combinations of ingredients based on sports nutrition and changed every day. The clean and warm interior is spacious enough to hold up to ninety seats and terrace seats are also available.
