If you are visiting Yamanashi Prefecture why not drop by Kofu Castle. It's just a 3 minute walk from the south gate of Kofu Station. Kofu Castle, also known as Maizurujo Park, has been designated as an official historical site of Yamanashi Prefecture. Kofu Station used to be a part of the castle, but in 1897 it was decided that the two enclosures of the castle (Yakatakuruwa and Shimizukuruwa) be dismantled so that they could build the train station.
