Photographic Views of Akita City
A journey of picturesque scenes around the city

A walkway and running path lined by trees on one side and the pond on the other. Adjacent to Akita Chou road near Akita Station.

Senshu Koen (Sensu Park) was once home to a castle for the Satake clan, the rulers of the region. In the park there are a number of shrines and a museum related to the Satake clan and the area around Akita City. This is a statue of Yoshiaki Satake.

This is one of the original gates, restored from the former Kubota Castle in Senshu Park.

Akita City has some amazing natural beauty tucked away throughout the city. Near the main station there is a large lily pond where ducks like to take a dip during warm summer days.

This is a restored tower, the only remnants of the original Kubota Castle. Inside there is a nice museum to the Satake family and the region around Akita City. On the top level of the tower is an amazing observation deck where you can enjoy panoramic views of the city.

Inside the restored tower there is a nice museum which includes replicas of various period scenes made out of washi paper.

The former castle was built on a hill, so of course the guard tower offers great views.

You can find many great places to take a stroll during warm summer days, here along the canals that line Kawabata Dori near Akita Station.

Akita is also home to the Akita Brewing Festival that is held during the autumn. Here you can sample many local sake from brewers all around the region.

Near the Akita Prefectural Museum of Natural History, you can find a restored Edo period house of the once prominent Nara family. Inside you can find a number of rural life artifacts in Akita Prefecture.

Also near the prefecture museum and Nara family house is an amazing park called Koizumigata Park. This lovely getaway from the busy city is a monument to Japanese style and ascetics.

Selion Harbor Tower located in Akita harbor is an awesome steel and glass building that towers over 140 meters. It is about a twenty minute drive from Akita Station. On the bottom floor there is a nice market and on the top floor is a great observation deck that gives panoramic views of the city and the harbor. It was also used in the filming of a Korean drama.

The sunset viewed from the tower.

Washi paper people! Cool! Nice photos, Dale. Great to see another one of your contributions. I like when you click the photo story and see the larger images. Then the quality and clarity becomes very noticeable. Great job!
