I arrived in Esashi with no plan, no agenda and no expectations. After arriving at the final stop along the Esashi Line, I reviewed the large town map plastered to the station wall before venturing down the road. What I found was one of the most rewarding visits during my time in Hokkaido so far: Kamome Island. It was the first really warm summer-like day since I arrived on the island nearly six weeks ago and proved to be a great hike with scenic beauty around every corner. The small island is home to a number of points of interest and local wildlife that outdoor lovers will enjoy hiking around. Others can happily spend their time snapping away at the endless photographic opportunities.
