Yokohama has three famous old towers. Jack was built in 1917 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Yokohama Port. But only 6 years later the Great Kanto Earthquake attacked Yokohama and Jack burned down. But the brick walls that were reinforced against earthquakes remained. The damaged building was beautifully restored in 1927, and it has been utilized as a public hall for Naka Ward citizens since 1959. The tower is 36 meters high and has clocks on all four sides so that everyone can see the time. Jack is always friendly to us! An index of this series is here.
