Shiogama, in Miyagi prefecture, is well-known as one of Japan's primary fishing ports. Shiogama Fish Market (Shiogama Suisanbutsu Nakaoroshi Ichiba) is a wholesale market open to all, containing hundreds of small shops and stalls selling fresh seafood. Being not too far away from Matsushima Bay, if you come to Shiogama Fish Market it is worthwhile trying Matsushima oysters. Matsushima, alongside Hiroshima, is famed for its oyster production.
