Lake Towada is a scenic lake situated in the Tohoku region, between Aomori and Akita. The lake was formed over 2000 years ago, as a result of frequent volcanic activities that created the caldera which is Lake Towada today. It is the largest crater lake within the main Honshu island of Japan. Part of the Towada-Hachimantai National Park, Lake Towada is one of the region's most popular attractions due to its proximity to scenic sites such as Oirase Stream and Mount Hakkoda
