Free Japanese culture experiences for foreigners

The Shinagawa Tourism Association and Japan Travel are joining up to host a free event all about learning and experiencing Japanese culture first hand.

The event will be spread over 3 places in the Oi and Ebara districts of Shinagawa and there will be four exciting tours led by experts in Japanese culture.

These tours cover interesting activities for all ages, so be sure to bring your friends and family. Performances include Gagaku (imperial court music and dance), Zazen meditation, Wagashi confectionery, Kyokushin karate performance, Kakigori shaved ice, Kawara-wari tile smashing, Koto musical performances, Mikomai ceremonial dance, traditional cotton candy creation, Shinto purification rituals and much more. Traditional snacks will also be provided with several of the activities.

There will be 2 sessions on the event day. The morning session starts at 9:30 am and afternoon session starts at 1:30 pm. Each session is composed of 4 groups of 15 people. Foreigners can participate for free with registration in advance via apply@japantravel.com (Subject: Shinagawa Event). The event is free and all participants who register in advance will receive a JPY 2,000 Amazon Gift Card for free! (one per member of your group or family).

Notes:

  • Please meet up at Shinagawa central park 15 minutes before the session (additional details will be provided via email)
  • Wear comfortable clothes suitable for the summer heat and bring sufficient water to stay hydrated throughout the day. Please be noted that alcohol is prohibited
