An avenue of illuminated trees

Venue: Odate Municipal General Hospital When: Early Dec 2021 - Mid Jan 2022

The 14th annual Odate Shining Street will start on Saturday December 5th and run until Monday January 11th. Normally, they have a switch on event on the first night. However, this year on account of the coronavirus there will be no additional events on the first night.

The illumination in the Odate area is turned on daily at 4.30 pm during the light up period. It stays on until 1 am, which is later than most other night illumination. Moreover, they leave the illumination on until sunrise on New Year's Day.

The area is an avenue of trees from the Akita University of Nursing and Welfare to Odate Municipal General Hospital. The 800 meter avenue has 82 trees, all of which are decorated in beautiful white lights.

Getting there

Access from JR Odate Station on the Ou main line and the Hanawa line. By car, the street is near national route 7. There is no official car park for this event.

Lynda has been in Japan for 20 years and blogging about Saitama on her personal blog insaitama.com for 14 of them.  Despite its central location, just North of Tokyo, Saitama is still quite unknown to the international tourist, but frequented by domestic travelers. It is a great place to experience some off-the-international-tourist-trail locations and meet with locals and national tourists. I hope to introduce a taste of what there is to do and see in my articles on Japan Travel and help you with your Saitama travel planning.  Be sure to stop by my website where you will find 600 things to do in Saitama and 400 active events!
